School Life

In addition to our unique curriculum, Oakwood provides many special events, clubs and field trips throughout the year that help students develop self-esteem, leadership, new interests and good sportsmanship!

School Clubs:
Students in the Grade 1-8 Academic Program & Transition Program may participate in school clubs which are run during
school hours or at lunch time. These clubs are an opportunity for students to further develop an area of interest and to interact with new students. Club choices will rotate throughout the school year and include: Cooking, Track & Field, Soccer, Clay-Making,
Karate, Drawing, Reading Buddies, Dancing, Construction, Nature, and Newspaper Club.

Special Events:
All students in the school participate in school-wide special events such as our Halloween
parade, Holiday & Spring concerts, community clean-up day, pizza days, water-days and spirit days.

Field Trips:
Throughout the year there are school-wide or specific class trips for students to participate
in. We also have several opportunities for students to go into the community and further
develop essential social skills.

Monthly Events:
– A visit from “Daisy” the Saint John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog.
– Inter-generational Program with the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel.
– Student of the Month Assembly
