Lead Classroom Teacher-Full Time
We are currently seeking two Lead Classroom Teachers for the Primary & Junior Academic Classes within Oakwood Academy. This is an unique opportunity to teach academics and social skills to children in a small class, tailored to meet the individual learning styles of each student. Teachers will work closely with a team of instructor therapists as well as Speech, Occupational, Art and Yoga therapists to develop and implement individual education plans for the children in the class.
Start Date: September 13, 2010
Qualifications:
Practical experience working with children in the primary and junior grades
Understanding of the Ontario Curriculum Standards
B.Ed or M.Ed
Member of Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Knowledge and training in ABA & the DIR/Floortime Model.

Speech Language Pathologist
The Transition Program at Oakwood Academy is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist to provide services at our school.
Kids CAN & Oakwood Academy offer year-round programs for children on the autism spectrum. Our centre is complete with a sensory integration room, outdoor playground, one-to-one rooms, and a mini-gym to accommodate the sensory needs of each child and provide motivating activities during their day. Our centre is uniquely geared towards social skill development primarily concerned with building communication skills.We provide you with a team of qualified staff and additional training in the field. Your services will provide families, clients and staff with strategies to aid in the development of speech in a private setting with use of Kids CAN facilities.
Qualifications/Skills:
· Current CASLPO registration
· Experience with autism spectrum disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and Language delay, in children ages 2-14years
· Previous clinical teaching experience would be preferable
· Excellent communication and time-management skills and ability to work as part of multiple interdisciplinary teams

Occupational Therapist

Qualifications/Skills:
· BScOT or CAOT approved equivalent/or BSc PT or CPA approved equivalent
·Member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or Ontario College of Physiotherapy
·CAOT/OSOT or CPA membership preferred
·Previous experience in the areas autism spectrum disorders and Asperger’s syndrome .

Volunteer Opportunities:
Yoga & Art Therapy- Currently seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual for a unique opportunity to assist once a week in our yoga and art therapy program. The assistant will guide children during the program under the supervision of an accredited art therapist and yoga instructor who is willing to share her knowledge with someone who has a passion and interest in the field.
Teen Social Skills assistant- Assisting the instructor in our Teen Social Skills program held on Wednesday evenings 6:00-8:00pm
